Fort Wayne Fun in the Summer

What to do in the Summer in Fort Wayne

Are you traveling to Fort Wayne and need to know the basics what to do in town? Or, do you already live here and would like some new ideas? Well, let me help! I didn’t grow up in Fort Wayne, I moved here about 5 years ago and in that time, I have been pleasantly surprised on all of the events and free things to do in the Summit City! I am an Airbnb host, I was an Uber Driver and am a Real Estate Broker, so I know some ins and outs of the area. Here are some of my suggestions for Summer

First – I have to mention the Fort Wayne Parks Department. There are a lot of parks to choose from. My favorite is Foster Park – There is a golf course, biking trails, wooden bridges, running and walking trails, exercise paths, ball diamonds, picnic areas – it’s everything you are looking for in a park. One of the newest attractions to Fort Wayne is Promenade Park – which is downtown and overlooks the river. Take a look at all that is available here: http://www.fortwayneparks.org/

Along the same lines as the parks – you have to check out the trail system that Fort Wayne has! There is a large network of trails that will connect you safely from one side of Fort Wayne to the other by bike or foot. Check it out here: https://fwtrails.org/

If you are looking for something to do downtown – take a tour of the murals and other art displays hiding in the alleys of Fort Wayne Buildings. Some of the alleys are lit up at night with decorative lights – and other alleys actually have seating for the local bars and restaurants. You can find more information on the murals here: https://www.artthiswayfw.com/

There are plenty of food choices all over the Fort. Many places are locally owned and locally sourced. We love food here in Fort Wayne! Some of my personal favorites are the Hoppy Gnome ( https://www.hoppygnome.com/ ), Solbird Kitchen and Tap (http://www.solkitchenfoods.com/ ), The Pub at 1802 (https://www.thepubat1802.com/ ) and any Hall’s Restaurant (https://www.donhalls.com/). Don Hall’s owns the Deck – which is a very popular summer meeting place. Check it out on a nice day! There are plenty of other restaurants that have outdoor seating in the summer.

The Rivers are also a great place to explore – you can rent a kayak at Fort Wayne Outfitters and/or take one of their planned paddle trips. https://fwoutfitters.com/ If you’d like a more leisurely ride on a river check out Rum Runners – you need to be over 21 and BYOB – but they will give you a great tour of the rivers for you and all of your friends. I highly recommend this service – it is a beautiful boat ride with no stress! https://rumrunnerpartyboats.com/

For an entertaining dinner, I highly recommend the Dinner Detective – it is a 3 hour, 3 course meal with a Live Action Murder Mystery Show. To find dates and times go here: http://thedinnerdetective.com

I also need to tell you about our 2 wineries in the area! These aren’t your average “tasting rooms” and nothing else – Both have outdoor concert venues and local wine. I highly recommend checking out both of them. Country Heritage Winery is a short drive North, check out their concert and event calendar here: https://countryheritagewinery.com/ Two E’s Winery is a short drive South of Fort Wayne, check out their page here: https://twoees.com/

We also have mini-golf course (https://www.facebook.com/fwputtputtfuncenter/), 2 shopping malls, a large coliseum for sporting events and concerts! There are many golf courses, festivals, and farmer’s markets as well. We can’t forget Parkview Field – where the Tincaps play! You can also rent a scooter or electric bike downtown and zoom about the sidewalks.

If you need more ideas – just look up the event page on facebook and change the location to Fort Wayne – you will be amazed at everything we have going on!
